Windows - Adding or Changing File Associations
If, for some reason, a file type is no longer associated with its program, these are the steps to fix the problem:
- Launch Windows Explorer.
- From the View menu choose Options.
- Click on the File Types tab.
- Click the New Type button.
- Enter a general description under Description of Type (e.g., "FooCorp Word Processor File").
- Enter the extention you want to add under Associated Extension (e.g., "FOO").
- Press the New... button near the bottom of the dialog box.
- From the Action menu, select Open.
- Type in or browse to the pathname of the program that you want to open this type of file (e.g., "c:\program files\foo\bar.exe").
- Press OK.
- Highlight Openin the Actions list, then press Set Default.
- Click Close.
- Click Close.
From now on, the file should be opened by that program whenever you double-click on it.
