Windows - Changing your Computer's Name

This document explains how to change a Windows hostname (netbios). Renaming a Windows computer requires a reboot.

Changing a Windows hostname (netbios)

  1. Right click on the My Computer icon on the Desktop, select Properties.

  1. Select the Computer Name tab of the System Properties window. Click the Change button.

  1. Enter the new hostname in the Computer name: field.

rename

  1. Click the OK button to continue. The computer must be restarted for the name change to take effect.
