Cluster Imaging Information
CEA Tech Support utilizes an imaging system called Norton Ghost. This software permits us to routinely wipe the hard drive of cluster computers and then restore it with a pristine copy of the original software. It also allows us to install new software and deploy it much faster than previously possible.
At no time are any of the files on the computer backed up!
CEA Tech Support takes an initial "snap shot" of the computer after it is initially prepped for use, and then uses this "snap shot" to perform any future restorations.
Files you download or save to the cluster computers are destroyed every time the image is sent back to the computer. You need to plan ahead and save data to removable media -- or use your personal storage space on the server.
Image restorations are done on an as needed basis. Although most restorations are usually accomplished late at night, they may occasionaly be performed during the day. Prior to any restoration a five minute warning notice is sent altering computer users of the impending image broadcast.
Clusters may be imaged at any time! However, we usually image late at night or early in the morning. |
