CEA Tech Support Job Description:
Systems, Applications and Cluster Administration/Maintenance
- Handle systems administration duties including security, account management, group permissions, software installation, and patches.
- Document systems management tasks as needed.
- Maintain hardware and software in three residential computing clusters with 20-25 total client machines and 4 printers serving over 500 students.
- Maintain hardware and software in six college computing clusters, each with 20-30 client machines, scanners and printers serving over 2,100 students.
- Install and upgrade software packages.
- Install and configure system and application software on computers and/or fileservers.
- Configure client software to specific unit needs.
- Serve as the contact person for CEA Techs, the Help Desk, and the college.
- Help create and maintain Windows software images for departmental clusters.
- Monitor and troubleshoot hardware, software and networking problems as they occur.
- Monitor and respond to maintenance and software requests submitted via the web.
- Maintain off campus access for domain clients only.
- Research and evaluate open source applications.
- Install specialized instructional software, digital media software and hardware on college computers.
- Maintain current knowledge of ITS and campus computing standards and current installation methods.
- Unbox, set up, and move computers, monitors, peripherals, as required
- Oversee the distribution of IP numbers and document computer locations and IP numbers on a site map of the college.
- Synchronize MAC addresses with individual IP numbers.
- Troubleshoot the local area network relative to the 121, 122, 123, and 75 subnets.
Consulting and Technical Support
- Provide on site and remote consulting and support to faculty and instructors .
- Support Windows XP and Linux workstations and general networking/desktop support.
- Train faculty and instructional staff and students who need technical skills to complete course assignments.
- Document technical tasks as needed.
- Facilitate the purchase of technology-based equipment for the college.
- Assist in prioritizing equipment needs for the college.
- Research, test, recommend, implement, and troubleshoot new hardware and software.
- Build, repair, replace computer systems as required.
Professional Training and Development
- Maintain knowledge of campus software standards and instructional computing lab software/hardware.
- Maintain knowledge of PC uses in teaching, course management systems, streaming servers, and open source applications.
- Maintain contact with other campus staff for best practices and standards.
Web Application Programming/Development
- Consult with instructors and staff to determine the functional needs and resources required to maintain projects.
- Program web interfaces using the appropriate tools. (Tools may include PHP, MySQL, PERL, Macromedia, and others.)
- Document technical tasks as needed. Write analytical reports of services provided and projects managed.
Administrative Duties
- Update required documents periodically.
- Document all CEA projects in the web Wiki established for that purpose (ongoing reports and summary reports).
- Contribute to and help maintain an up-to-date technical manual for CEA technical operations. (also on web Wiki)
- Update equipment inventory for tracking purposes. (ongoing)
- Document installation, configuration, and troubleshooting procedures.
